Behind The Strings: Always Her

An Interview with your next favorite Provo band!

Flashback to two years ago: It’s December of 2023 and I’m at a good friend’s Christmas house show, my feet and hands are freezing because the show is in a garage, the music is loud and I can’t seem to wipe the smile off of my face. All of the bands that played that night were incredible but there is one memory that has always stuck with me and that was when Always Her played their infamous Halloween song: The Silhouette Song. Not only was it incredibly funny that they were playing a Halloween song in the middle of December, but it was also SUPER fun. The garage was so full that I barely had room to move and I still found myself dancing with the rest of the crowd. It was as if they had put the crowd under their spell but I’m definitely not mad about it. The reason I’m bringing up this random memory from two years ago is because I think it sums up the identity of Always Her as a band. I’ve been to plenty of their shows after that and had just as much fun at the rest of them. Always Her has made killer music and not to mention leaves a lasting impression on all their audience members.

Who is Always Her?

Always Her is currently a three-piece band with Brian on vocals and guitar, Everett on lead guitar, and Link on the drums. When I asked them to describe their sound they described it as alternative with elements of other genres such as indie, rock, etc.. They started in Utah a couple of years ago under a different name: Last Chance but changed their name to Always Her in 2024. Brian and Everett started Always Her and have been playing together for a long time and that’s something you can hear in their music, they’re a powerhouse of a dynamic duo, and they have a lot of experience of working together as an advantage. Link just recently joined Always Her in the summer of 2024 but he brings a lot to the table, he is a great drummer, brings a lot of energy to the stage, and is one of the most passionate people that I’ve met in the local scene. This dynamic that they all have together seems to work incredibly well for them because they have been releasing music, booking sold-out shows, and going on tour multiple times throughout the year. After only one year of being “Always Her”, they are professionals. If I were to say one band has it right, Always Her would be one of the first to come to mind.

I mentioned the tours they went on during 2024 and that’s the most unique yet impressive thing about them. They managed to go on two tours in the span of one year whilst still coming out with new music. On the first tour they went on, I actually went to one of their shows in Idaho, and had yet another memorable concert experience. They are from Utah but have graced concert venues around the U.S. with their incredible stage presence. When I asked them what makes them unique they said that it was going on tour but I would argue that it is their stage presence. During the interview, I asked them what’s something they love to see in a crowd and they answered “movement”. They must love every crowd they see because I’ve never been to an Always Her concert where people are standing still. They have mastered the craft of getting everybody on their feet and moving around like no other. They are also very intentional about everything they do, they make music that they love, they know to get a crowd moving, they have great social media skills, they’re super passionate, they’re friendly to everyone they meet, and much more (like I said, they’re pros). If I were asked to describe Always Her, I would say that they are a band that knows the perfect balance of having fun and making music that is meaningful and enjoyable.

Always Her on The Scene

Since this is an Analog Utah interview I couldn’t help but ask them about the music scene and they had some pretty great answers. I asked them what their favorite thing about being in the Utah music scene was and without skipping a beat they said that it was the collaboration. They love how welcoming and collaborative the scene is. That answer is worth mentioning because Always Her is the epitome of welcoming and collaborative, they are always willing to work with other artists and easily make friends with every person they meet. They love the tight-knit music scene they’re in and I believe they are one of the main reasons it’s so tight-knit. Something worth mentioning is that they talked about how a lot of people don’t really know how big and alive the scene is and I just wanted to say that I think as a band they do so much work to show people the amazing music culture of Utah. The sense of community in the Utah scene is no joke and one of the reasons that it’s like that is because of Always Her, they not only care about the music, they also care about the people.

If there is one thing you should know about Always Her it is how much they care about the music they make. Just in the past year, they have released an EP and an acoustic session (along with some music videos) and while listening to those you can hear the passion behind it. While interviewing them, they lit up at the opportunity to talk about any kind of music, not just their own. While writing their songs they make music that they themselves would listen to which makes their music more enjoyable. The passion they have for Always Her is palpable and hard to miss. Especially when you’re in the crowd at their shows. I’m bringing this up because the passion they have is the core of the music scene and drives the music scene forward every day. Always Her joined the scene just over two years ago and has already expanded it.

While interviewing them I asked them what the purpose of Always Her was and what Everett said stuck out to me, he said “We’re just here to have a good time while making good music, and getting people to like it” which is my favorite answer to that question I’ve ever heard because it really hits the nail right on the head. Always Her does have a good time while making good music, and people really love it. They also said that they want to be known which I think furthers what I said about them pushing the scene forward. Brian showcased that passion by saying “We want to be seen but we also want people to be seen through us as well”. Always Her is a band that knows what it means to connect through their music, so I believe they’re fulfilling their purpose well.

Their Favorites

Every interview, Analog Utah makes sure to ask the interviewees two very important questions; 1. What’s one album you think everyone should listen to during their lifetime? and 2. What’s your favorite type of analog media/medium? Here are Always Her’s Favorites:
